Class Descriptions

All of our Yoga classes, unless specified, will include any or all of the following modalities:

Asana - Yoga

Traditional yoga postures including standing, seated, supine, twists, backbends, and inversions that improve flexibility, strength, and stamina.

Focusing on the traditional poses; standing, seated, supine, twists, backbends, inversions and pranayama (breath). Our main objective is alignment.  These postures will improve your flexibility, strength and stamina.

Yoga Therapy (Therapeutics)

Asanas assisted with props and the use of iYoga’s “Yoga Bar System” to target specific areas of the body, perfect for anybody suffering from injuries and for people who want to deepen the effect of a particular posture.

You will learn techniques that target specific areas of the body. This will help with ailments and injuries, and will relieve chronic aches and pains. We use preparatory postures with the help of props to enhance your flexibility, strength, increase range of motion, open the joints and improve circulation. You will also be introduced to the fundamental uses of iYoga's unique "Yoga Bar System," which offers support in poses to deepen the stretch, maximize the impact and generally help practitioners get the most out of their practice.

Restorative

Postures supported with props to promote deep relaxation.

Also known as Relaxation. This class is designed to help rejuvenate the mind, body and spirit. With a combination of restful poses and breathing techniques (pranayama), these poses counteract the effects of stress and daily life. Restorative poses are generally held for longer periods of time.

Vinyasa

Llinking the asanas and pranayama together to create a flowing sequence of postures.

Gentle

This is different only by the approach and delivery. We will cover all asanas including restorative and yoga therapy but with a slower paced instruction.

Pranayama

Yogic breathing techniques to decrease stress and calm the mind.

Prenatal Yoga (Kundalini style)

This class provides a holistic approach to pregnancy and birth.  Classes will include Asana (physical postures), Pranayama (breathing techniques), chanting, singing, meditation and relaxation.  We will help you become more confident in your own abilities.  We will celebrate your pregnancy, prepare for labor and work towards a better postpartum recovery while building a community with fellow mothers to be.

Mala Meditation and the 10 Bodies of Light Consciousness

(the last Thursday of every month)

This year the Kundalini teachings from the 10 Bodies of Light Consciousness are combined with the Mala meditation.  Each month a new kriya (sequence of exercises) is taught that corresponds to the light body being studied.  These bodies comprise of the physical body, three mental bodies, and six energy bodies.  A mala is 108 beads strung together used as a tactile tool to aid in the seated meditation portion of the practice.  The seated meditation lasts 10 – 45 minutes.  The mala is used to pace you – the slower you go through the beads, the longer your seated practice will last.  Practicing the kriyas and combining it with a mala meditation combines the physical and mental aspects of yoga creating an opportunity for a deeper study into your Self.

This practice is open to all levels of practitioners, including beginners.  The 10 Bodies are not sequential.  Attend the classes you can make.
